L-Arginine
- suitable for vegans
- recommended oral intake of 4.5 g / day
- usage as a pre-workout booster
What is L-arginine actually?
L-arginine is a semi-essential amino acid . This means that our body can produce the amino acid itself, but the body's own production cannot be sufficient in certain situations. Strong strain such as injuries, stress or intensive training can increase the requirement, so that additional intake through food or supplements is necessary.
Arginine is a main component of our connective tissue (e.g. collagen) and is a component of muscle proteins. Arginine is also involved in the formation of Creatine involved, which plays an important role in energy production in the muscle cell.
Fitness-loving athletes and bodybuilders often rely on the amino acid for a different reason. L-arginine is the only precursor of nitric oxide (NO) and is therefore popular used as a pre-workout booster.
How does L-arginine work?
Nitric oxide (NO) has a vasodilating effect and influences blood circulation. The messenger substance is e.g. B. is involved in the regulation of blood pressure and in the supply of oxygen and nutrients to the vessels. Our body produces nitric oxide from L-arginine, which is why the amino acid often used as a supplement. Also L-Citrulline is a popular sports supplement. The amino acid is converted into arginine in the body and also serves as a precursor for nitrogen monoxide.
Due to the vasodilating properties of nitric oxide, arginine is increasingly being used in the treatment of diseases such as high blood pressure (hypertension) or erectile dysfunction ) into focus. Any possible intake should definitely be discussed with the treating doctor.
When and how should L-arginine be taken?
We recommend a daily intake of 4.5-5 g approx. 30 minutes before training. Whether in powder/capsule form, in our Pre-Workout Booster or in combination with citrulline is up to you.
Are there any risks when taking it?
In general, taking L-arginine is harmless for healthy people. Bloating, diarrhea or stomach pain are only reported when high doses (over 6 g) are taken regularly. If your blood pressure is low, the dosage should be slightly lower at the beginning and can be increased slowly. If you have kidney, vascular or liver diseases or are taking medication that dilates blood vessels or regulates blood pressure, arginine should not be used without consulting your doctor.
Which form or preparation is the best?
Arginine Citrulline Mix
In principle, L-arginine can be easily absorbed by the body in both capsule and powder form. The combination of L-arginine and L-citrulline is also very popular. Although both substances work in the same way, the effect occurs with a delay. Nitric oxide can be obtained directly from L-arginine by the body, while L-citrulline must first be converted.
