Ecdysterone - everything you need to know about the natural anabolic steroid

What Popeye already knew over 90 years ago was confirmed by a sensational study in 2019:Spinach makes you strong. Strictly speaking, however, it is not the green leafy vegetables that make your biceps grow, but the substance ecdysterone contained in them. Russian athletes are said to have taken the miracle drug back in the 1980s. Thanks to improved manufacturing processes, ecdysterone is now accessible to the masses.

The results of the study were so impressive that ecdysterone is now also referred to as a natural anabolic substance. There is even talk of including the substance on the World Anti-Doping Agency's (WADA) list of banned substances.

You can find out all the important facts about the performance-enhancing sports supplement and its dopping effect in our blog post.

What is ecdysterone?

Ecdysterone is a steroid hormone and therefore has a similar structure to testosterone, vitamin D or cholesterol, for example. In insects and crustaceans, it controls haematopoiesis. It is also found in some plants (e.g. spinach), where it serves as protection against predators. Incidentally, unlike insects and crustaceans, we humans do not have ecdysterone receptors.

How does ecdysterone work?

In a placebo-controlled study the effect of ecdysterone on physical performance and the build-up of muscle mass was investigated over a period of 10 weeks. The result was clear: the test subjects who had taken ecdysterone had a significantly higher muscle mass and strength at the end of the study period than the placebo group. In particular, a strong increase in performance was observed in the 1-repetition maximum strength bench press.

In addition, the researchers used cell cultures to investigate the effects of ecdysterone intake at the cellular level. The phytosteroid also led to muscle growth in vitro in the form of an increase in the diameter of the muscle fibres.

The exact mechanisms of action of ecdysterone have not yet been deciphered. According to current research, the anabolic effect is based on an interaction with the estrogen receptor beta.

How often should I take ecdysterone?

Ecdysterone is taken every day. On training days, you can also split the dose and take one half in the morning and the other half after your workout.

Can I absorb enough ecdysterone through food?

Some spinach varieties have been found to contain concentrations so high that this would theoretically be possible. However, the content in plants fluctuates greatly and a constant supply over a longer period of time is therefore almost impossible to guarantee in practice. In addition, even the biggest spinach lovers are unlikely to want to eat spinach every day for weeks (up to several kilos). It is much easier to take supplements.

Are there any known side effects caused by taking them?

The study not only investigated the effects of ecdysterone intake on performance and muscle growth. Blood and urine samples were also analysed for biomarkers of liver or kidney damage and hormonal changes. The result: no undesirable side effects were observed. Only gastrointestinal complaints occurred äußonly rarely

Why do you combine your ecdysterone with creatine or leucine?

The combination of ecdysterone and creatin is unique and does not exist in this form on the German market. The advantages are actually obvious. Both substances increase physical performance and therefore complement each other perfectly when it comes to pushing muscle growth and improving athletic performance. If you want more power for your training, you can't get past these two supps.

Creatine is one of the most popular and safest sports supplements. For strength athletes, taking creatine is almost obligatory. Taken regularly, creatine increases physical performance during high-speed strength training as part of short-term, intensive physical activity.

Would you like to try out the combination of the tried and tested and the new trend? Then our Ecdysterone + Creatine Capsules are just the thing for you. Of course, you can also find the Ecdysterone capsules and Creatine capsules individually in our shop. You can also find our Ultra Ecdysterone capsules in the shop. In addition to ecdysterone, they contain the essential amino acid leucine and piperine from black pepper extract.

Why does the ecdysterone in Nutri-Plus products not come from spinach?

We use Cyanotis arachnoideae and safflower mountain ash extract in our products. These plant extracts consist of almost 95% and 90% beta-ecdysterone and therefore contain significantly more active ingredient than spinach extract.
