Glucomannan is a water-soluble fibre extracted from the konjac root, which can swell up to 50 times its own volume and thus causes a strong feeling of satiety. Fat-splitting enzymes inhibit the absorption of fat from food during digestion. Furthermore, glucomannan binds bile acids. Since bile acids are needed for digestion, they have to be constantly formed from cholesterol. Glucomannan can thus contribute to the regulation of cholesterol levels.
