What is L-Citrulline and L-Citrulline Malate?
L-citrulline is a non-proteinogenic, non-essential amino acid . The name “Citrulline” comes from the Latin “citrullus lanatus” and means watermelon. The name comes from the fact that the amino acid was first isolated from watermelons in 1914. Watermelons therefore contain particularly high amounts of natural citrulline.
Citrulline, alongside L-arginine and L-ornithine, plays a crucial role in the urea cycle, in which ammonia and other harmful substances are detoxified and excreted via the kidneys in the urine. Although the amino acid is not involved in the construction of proteins, it still has many important functions in the human body.
L-Citrulline Malate is a compound of citrulline and esterified malic acid (malate). Malate comes from the Latin “malum”, meaning apple. It is found, among other things, in apples and gives the fruit its sour taste. In human metabolism, for example, malate is involved in energy production and is a component of the citrate cycle.
What does L-citrulline malate do?
L-Citrulline Malate is used in sports primarily as Pre-Workout Booster used.
Like arginine, the amino acid plays a crucial role in the formation of nitrogen monoxide (NO). L-citrulline is converted into L-arginine, which is the precursor to nitric oxide. Nitric oxide (NO) is in turn involved in vasodilatation. If the arginine level in the body is too low, serious secondary diseases such as high blood pressure, arteriosclerosis, diabetes mellitus and erectile dysfunction can occur.
In addition, nitric oxide leads to improved blood circulation, so that the supply of nutrients and the removal of waste products in the muscle is improved. The resistance and regeneration after stress also benefit from this.
How is L-citrulline malate taken?
On training days, 10 g of powder (equivalent to 2 measuring spoons) is taken with 300 ml of water approx. 30 minutes before training.
Since our citrulline malate contains a mixing ratio of two parts citrulline and one part malate, the body's ability to absorb it is made easier. You can recognize the combination by the sour, refreshing taste.
L-citrulline malate has a very good tolerability . People who suffer from cardiovascular diseases or other illnesses should still discuss taking it with their doctor beforehand.
