Beta-alanine (also spelt β-alanine) is a non-essential amino acid that is produced in the liver in humans and is also found in animal products such as meat and fish. β-alanine plays a crucial role in the synthesis of the dipeptide carnosine, which consists of β-alanine and histidine. Here, β-alanine is the limiting component of the process. Carnosine is present in high concentrations in muscle tissue, particularly in the fast-twitch type II muscle fibres, which are responsible for maximum loads. It is mainly used as a pH buffer to prevent acidosis. Various studies show that supplementation with β-alanine can increase the carnosine content of the muscles. The higher the carnosine content, the higher the buffering capacity of the muscles. As a result, the muscle does not acidify as quickly. What does the best-before date mean?

The best-before date (BBD) indicates the date until which food can be consumed without any loss of taste or quality if stored correctly. It is therefore not a use-by date. This means that unopened food that has been stored properly can generally still be consumed without hesitation even after the best-before date has expired.

Important: Use your senses. Anything that no longer smells or tastes good or has changed color or shape should no longer be eaten.
