nutri+ L-lysine capsules
L-lysine is an essential amino acid that the body cannot produce itself and must therefore be taken in with food. In contrast to the other 7 amino acids designated as essential, lysine (as well as threonine) cannot be synthesised endogenously from the corresponding keto acids. L-lysine is therefore absolutely essential. In certain situations it therefore makes sense to supplement L-lysine with appropriate food supplements.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), an amount of 30 to 64 mg of L-lysine per kg of body weight should be consumed per day. Most plant-based foods are low in lysine. Lysine is the limiting amino acid in many plant proteins (e.g. in cereals such as wheat or maize) and reduces the biological value. But there are also exceptions: Rice or pulses such as peas, lentils or soya are rich in lysine. In certain situations it therefore makes sense to supplement L-lysine with appropriate food Supplements.
L-lysine is a component of collagen, where it occurs as modified ‘hydroxylysine’. Collagen is an essential building material of connective tissue (in bones, cartilage, tendons and ligaments) and the skin. A lysine deficiency therefore leads to weakened connective tissue. You can read more about the importance of lysine for connective tissue here. L-lysine is also of particular importance as a precursor of carnitine. Carnitine plays an important role in energy and fat metabolism, as it transports fatty acids into the mitochondria.
