Metabolism
The word metabolism is often used in connection with nutrition, fitness and weight loss. Metabolism is a central component of our body and plays a crucial role in our health, energy balance and quality of life.
What is metabolism?
Metabolism includes all the chemical processes in our body that serve to convert the nutrients we consume into energy or to use them to build and maintain body cells and structures.
There are two main processes in metabolism: Firstly, the breakdown of nutrients to produce energy (catabolism) and secondly, the build-up of endogenous substances such as muscles, whereby energy is consumed (anabolism).
In short, metabolism is what keeps your body working.
Which micronutrients have an effect on the metabolism?
- Biotin, chromium and zinc contribute to a normal metabolism of macronutrients.
- Biotin, calcium, iron, iodine, copper, magnesium, manganese, niacin, pantothenic acid, phosphorus, riboflavin, thiamine, vitamin B6, vitamin B12 and vitamin C contribute to normal energy metabolism.
- Choline, folate, vitamin B6 and vitamin B12 contribute to normal homocysteine metabolism.
- Choline contributes to normal fat metabolism.
- Folate contributes to normal amino acid synthesis.
- Magnesium and zinc contribute to normal protein synthesis.
- Molybdenum contributes to the normal metabolism of sulphur-containing amino acids.
- Pantothenic acid contributes to normal synthesis and metabolism of steroid hormones, vitamin D and some neurotransmitters.
- Riboflavin and vitamin A contribute to normal iron metabolism.
- Vitamin B6 contributes to normal protein and glycogen metabolism.
- Zinc contributes to normal acid-base metabolism, carbohydrate metabolism, vitamin A metabolism and fatty acid metabolism.
nutri+ Metabolism Active capsules
We have developed our nutri+ Metabolism Active capsules to provide targeted support for the metabolism. The special composition of the capsules combines important vitamins and minerals with selected ingredients such as bromelain, coenzyme Q10 and green tea extract.
What has an influence on metabolism?
Genes: Everyone has a different basal metabolic rate and a different body composition.
Age: Metabolic activity decreases with increasing age.
Gender: Women and men have a different distribution of fat and muscle mass and have gender-specific hormones that affect metabolism.
Hormones: Hormones such as insulin, cortisol and thyroid hormones regulate our metabolism.
Exercise: Physical activity consumes more energy. More muscle mass also leads to higher energy consumption.
Diet: The type and composition of food affects metabolic processes.
Symptoms of a disturbed metabolism
- Lack of energy and tiredness
- Weight gain or loss (for no apparent reason)
- Sensitivity to cold
- Digestive Problems
- Hormonal disorders
- Skin problems
- Hair loss
Important: Are you suffering from several symptoms? Then talk to your doctor to rule out thyroid disease, diabetes or other metabolic disorders.
